I JUST FINISHED WATCHING THIS AND LET ME TELL YOU - I loved it. Laurie (played by a young Jamie Lee Curtis) is my favorite horror heroine I have seen this far into my horror journey. This movie has it all: kinda obnoxious 70s teenagers that are obviously going to end up dead; a fabulous, ominous theme/score; a creepy antagonist that manages to be completely terrifying without saying a word; and that feeling that every good horror movie should give you - the queasy feeling that you know something bad is going to happen, but you don't know what or when. I'm a big fan of 70s movies, because I like the way they're shot, and this film was shot in that low-def style that really gets me going, whatever that's supposed to mean. Laurie is an awesome protagonist, because everyone thinks she's a square, but she ends up being a total badass. One of the things I liked about this movie is that every time you think the villain, Michael Myers, is dead- NOPE. He's back. And he lurks a lot, which is chilling and fabulous. Don't want to spoil the ending too much, but it leaves you feeling somewhat satisfied that things will be alright while still being ambiguous as to what will happen next (clearly leaving the movie open for a sequel/sequels). In summary: Halloween has everything I want in a horror movie, from a strong, likeable female protagonist, to a haunting bad guy, to a spine-tingling score.
